This standard specifies the methods for the identification and grading of laboratory-grown diamonds.

This standard applies to the identification and grading of loose and mounted polished laboratory-grown diamonds that have not undergone enhancement treatments such as coating, fracture filling, or laser drilling.

The cut grading provisions in this standard apply to loose and mounted polished laboratory-grown diamonds with a standard round brilliant cut.

The grading provisions in this standard apply to loose polished laboratory-grown diamonds with a mass of 0.0400 g (0.20 ct) or greater, and to mounted polished laboratory-grown diamonds with a mass between 0.0400 g (0.20 ct, inclusive) and 0.2000 g (1.00 ct, inclusive). Loose and mounted polished laboratory-grown diamonds with a mass of less than 0.0400 g (0.20 ct), and mounted polished laboratory-grown diamonds with a mass greater than 0.2000 g (1.00 ct), may be graded with reference to this standard.

For loose and mounted polished laboratory-grown diamonds with non-standard round brilliant cuts, the grading of color, clarity, and finish (polish and symmetry)-as part of the cut grading-may be conducted with reference to this standard.
